Most frequent questions and answers
Full mouth reconstruction is a great way to get your smile back. It is a procedure to rectify the relationship between bone, gums, teeth and muscles. It is performed either on some or all of the patient’s teeth, depending on the severity of the complications and the desired outcome of reconstruction.
If you have good bone support around the roots, and the teeth are mechanically sound and are likely to last a minimum of 10 years while retaining full functionality, we can provide a “transitional telescopic bridge.” This will provide excellent function and aesthetics before all the teeth need to be removed in favour of a full mouth reconstruction on several dental implants.
If there is any clinical doubt that your whole jaw of teeth can be successfully utilised in a full or partial bridge construction on the remaining roots then all the teeth will need to be sacrificed to enable construction of a full bridge on dental implants.
Full mouth reconstruction is a great option for patients who may have suffered with the following;
- gum disease, resulting in multiple abscesses, oral malodour (halitosis), and mobile teeth which leads to difficulty in eating
- unhappy with the appearance of your teeth
- loose and painful dentures
- teeth that are heavily filled and keep breaking
There are two types of full mouth reconstructions:
1. When all teeth have been removed, dental implants are placed and form the basis for reconstruction which may be either fixed bridges or implant supported overdentures.
2. If a few teeth are missing and implants are not a viable option, reconstruction can be done with bridges and crowns to achieve a natural looking cosmetic smile makeover
